In September 2025, I observed how is a town hall gift shop had a section promoting radical Gender Ideology to children.
One item that caught my main concern was some childrens stickers on sale that claimed that…
“QUEER EXISTENCE IS RESISTANCE”
Following investigation, it is apparent that the local council in question is entrenched in Critical Consciousness and Cultural Marxist ideology.
Evidently they feel the need to promote this to children.
Granted, it was unlikely that any form of objection raised by a concerned citizen would fall on deaf ears, but I wrote the below in protest to the local council to go on the record at least.
This can also serve here as something if you wish to make a similar protest in writing:
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my concern regarding a product currently being sold at your museum gift shop: stickers that read “Queer existence is resistance.”
While I understand that shops often carry items meant to reflect culture, identity, or solidarity, I believe that this particular activism message borders on extreme and may unintentionally cause alarm or distress to vulnerable individuals. Phrases framed around “existence” and “resistance” can give the impression that a person’s very being is under imminent threat. This framing could be interpreted as a call to conflict or confrontation, which risks provoking fear or even aggressive reactions from those who feel unsettled by such messages.
We have seen, in recent incidents such as the one involving Charlie Kirk in the USA, how heightened perceptions of threat can trigger hostility or violence. I worry that slogans like this could contribute, even unintentionally, to similar outcomes by creating an atmosphere of tension rather than understanding.
Also, it might trouble any individuals identifying as Queer, as it seems essentialising to regard Queer people as synonymous with this kind of worldview, when they are actually politically, religiously, philosophically and intellectually diverse individuals. The ‘About’ page of Queer Majority does a concise job of highlighting a similar point here queermajority.com/about
I respectfully ask that you reconsider whether carrying this particular product aligns with the welcoming and positive environment a tourist gift shop should foster. At the very least, I encourage you to reflect on how certain messages may be interpreted and the potential impact on both visitors and the wider community.
I am happy to leave this consideration with you and trust that you will use your judgement as to whether you continue to offer these.
Thank you for taking this concern seriously. I appreciate your attention and your commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive space for all.
Sincerely.
This was sent in September 2025. No reply was received by myself as I write this in May 2026.
Go figure.
